Evlynn Sharp

Evlynn SharpEvlynn is a performance poet, playwright, creative arts facilitator and visiting lecturer:

“I work as a poet and creative arts facilitator, and I have experience as writer in residence in secure establishments such as HMP Lewes and HMP Belmarsh as well as with Surrey & Sussex Probation Trust. I believe in working with prisoners to engage people more closely in their creative process, meeting men and women where they are to find a voice for exploring our lives, inner and outer. I am passionate about the oral tradition, heritage, place, and life paths that offer knowledge of past and present plus hints of making a positive future.”

As part of Reading the South, Evlynn has led a series of creative writing workshops on the theme of place and identity with offenders at HMP Ford, West Sussex.  Output from the workshops include a booklet of poems by the offenders, Poetry Places of a Man, as well as a booklet of poems inspired by the experience by Evlynn herself, At the Gate.

She plans to expand and develop her work with Reading the South in prison establishments and with ex-offender groups in 2018.
